Explanation

What is TargaScore?

TargaScore is a digital billiards scoreboard that runs on a television or display, with a management environment where matches, players and settings are kept centrally. Built for everyday use in the room as well as for competitions.

Key figures not yet established

The key figures on this page are placeholders. They will only be published once the actual numbers are known and verifiable.

Explanation

  • A scoreboard on an ordinary screen

    The scoreboard runs on a television or monitor with HDMI. You do not need a dedicated scoreboard on the wall.

  • Central management

    Matches, players and settings are managed in the admin portal. Changes appear on the screen in the room.

  • For every day and for competitions

    The same setup works on an ordinary club night and during a competition or tournament.

  • Simple operation

    The actions you need most often come first. A wrong entry can be undone.

  • Guidance at hand

    Every action comes with a short manual with spoken explanation.

  • Under active development

    TargaScore is being extended. New versions are made available through this site and the admin portal.

A scoreboard everyone can read

In many billiards rooms the score is kept on paper, on a chalkboard, or on a device only the person behind the table can see. That works, but it takes someone's attention, and it is not always clear to players and spectators how the match stands.

TargaScore puts the scoreboard on a television or display next to the table. Names, the score and the details of the match are always in the same place, with large numbers that can be read from where people play.

Managed centrally, used in the room

The system consists of two parts that work together:

  • the scoreboard in the room — the screen that shows the match and is used to keep score;
  • the admin portal — where players, matches and settings are recorded.

What is set in the admin portal appears on the scoreboard. You do not need to stand next to the device to change something. For venues with several tables this means settings are arranged in one place instead of on each device separately.

Suitable for everyday use

A scoreboard in a room stays on for a long time and is used by many different people. The setup is built for that:

  • the display is kept calm, without unnecessary movement or harsh colours;
  • operating it during a match is limited to what you actually need;
  • a mistake while entering a score can be undone without setting up the match again;
  • the device is configured to return to the scoreboard after starting up.

The same setup works during a competition or tournament, where the score has to be clear to players, referees and spectators at the same time.

Operation has to be simple

At clubs and in hospitality venues, the people operating the scoreboard change. A system that only works if you use it every week is unusable in practice.

That is why the most-used actions come first, and every action has a short manual with spoken explanation. Anyone who does not know how something works can look it up instead of having to call someone.

Under active development

TargaScore is being developed further. New image versions for the Raspberry Pi are published on the hardware page with a version number, release date and checksum; for Android TV, updates run through the Google Play Store.
